Modern orange carrots were domesticated in the 1600s. Before that, in Egypt and Persia purple carrots were grown for their medicinal, nutritional and aphrodisiacal properties. Others claimed that drinking a small amount of black carrot juice helped with digestion.
While black carrot tastes like orange carrot it has a very subtle hint of pepper. It competes with ginger and will appeal to those that like a mild radish.
